Double Page Spread Mood Board

Hello everyone I'll be presenting you with my Double Page spread mood board that I've created on Pinterest and include some double page spreads designs that I've liked which you could find it below.

Weekly Update

Hello everyone I'll be giving you my weekly update today and let you know what's been going on! The first thing that happened this week was my 'Target Audience Vox Pop'. I had to go and record people standing still and went on Adobe Premier Pro and made a profile for the people and made a video out of it. After that I created my 'Audience Research Mood Board' on Pinterest. I went on Pinterest and pinned some posts that I thought would be relatable for my magazine and included different stuff such as artists, music concerts, quotes and more. Then I created a questionnaire to find out about what people would like to see in my magazine and created a presentation of the results. Then after I created a Readership profile where i went through the results of my questionnaire and let you guys know what I thought about the results and what will now be included in my magazine.

Readership Profile

As you would of seen in my previous post I've managed to obtain results from my questionnaire and presented it to you. Today with them results I'll make a conclusion on what exactly my magazine will be about and some of the stuff I'll include in it.

As you can see the results from my questionnaire both genders answered it. This was a postivie as I wanted my magazine to target both genders and by getting answers from both this helped me out a lot as now I can have a rough idea on what both genders think about music magazines and what they'll like to see included in one.

The second question was about the age of people that will be answering the questionnaire. Overall I think it was not dominated by a certain age but by the results you can see that majoirty of it was answered by 16 year olds but there was still a fair amount of 17 years old that took part too which was a postive. However only a minimal amount of 18 year olds took part in the questionnaire so when I create my magazine I'll be mainly focusing on it to teens around 16 to 18 year olds.

The third question was a really important one as it let me know what type of music (genre) people like. As you can see from the results Hip-Hop was the genre that people enjoyed listening to the most with half the people voting it and the rest were tightly contentsed with Pop coming in second with four votes and both rock and other were join 3rd with 3 votes. As a conclusion I'll be making my magazine focus on the Hip-Hop genre as people seem to enjoy that the most and will not be including Pop as I believe if it was tightly contenested they'll be a reason but as it ain't my magazines only focus will be Hip-Hop.

I asked the fourth question to have a rough idea to see if people do enjoy stuff like the radio. As if they do they had a lead up question to what kind of radio station they listen to which will help me as I'll know exactly what kind of music of each genre they listen to such as chilled, fast etc. As you can see half of the people said they do listen to the radio and half of it said no. The people that did say yes they liked listening to Capital XTRA which means they like main known artists and music which means I should include stuff like that so they can relate.

The following question about the pricing was arguably one of the most important questions as if you include everything but don't get the price right then people won't buy your magazine. As you can see from the results more than half of the people agreed that £1-£2 will be an appropriate price for a magazine. This was surprising as there was a cheaper option of under £1 but this still managed to lose out to £1-£2 which possibly means that people expect a magazine worth reading for an appropriate price. As a result the price of my magazine will be £1-£2 as it'll make it more profitable yet people still are more likely to purchase it depending on the content.

The 6th question was also vital as this will mean what will be included and how much into detail my magazine will go to. If people wanted a weekly magazine then this will mean more topics could possibly be covered but with less depth so people are up to date with what's going on. However if they like a monthly magazine this could go more into detail with the situation and maybe include other stuff like interviews. As you can see by the result majority of the people preferred if it was a monthly magazine even though it was tightly contested. As a result I'll do a monthly magazine as I believe it'll be more suitable for my magazine as I want it to be in depth and include detailed interviews which will be hard to do in a weekly magazine.

I included the question 'Who's your favourite artist?' as this will give me ideas of what artists I can include in the magazine. As you can see by the results Drake won the majority of the votes as peoples favourite artist and J Cole coming second. Both Drake and J Cole are known artists which shows that people will like to see known artists in the magazine as you can see from rest of the results you can see they're main known artists which I will be including.

I asked why people prefer CD's or downloading music online so I can have giveaways and try relate it to my readers the most. If people liked CD's then I can have CD giveaways including in my magazine but if they liked downloading music online then I can give vouchers to them. As you can see Downloading music online dominated it and won easily. As for this reason I could include vouchers to giveaway so it can possibly attract more readers as they have chances to win things by reading the magazine.

The final question was asked so I can see how people interact with the latest music. This one was tightly contested but unsurprisingly people managed to keep up with the latest music on the Internet. This is a positive as my magazine could have social media accounts set up and provide people with breaking news about new music coming up and like this it can attract more people as if the social media account is run properly this could attract more people to read the magazine.

Questionnaire Results

Hello everyone I will be presenting you with my questionnaire results which I have created on infogram (based on the 20 results I got). You'll be able to find the results below and soon I'll also be making a Readership profile based on the results and will post to give you my thoughts

Questionnaire (For Audience)

Hello everyone today I've created a Questionnaire to find about my audience for my upcoming music magazine. Below you can find the sample for the questionnaire that I'll be giving out to find out about my audience.

Weekly Update

Hello everyone hope you’re all doing fine. This week I’ve focused on doing the conventions for my front cover, contents page and double page spread. For all of them I analysed different important parts of what they contain to make them up (front page, contents page and double page spread). Finally I’ve also done a comparison of two different music magazines front cover (Hip Hop & Rock) and analysed what makes both of them magazines suitable to their genre and how exactly this is done by them.

Analysis of music magazine (Hip-Hop&Rock)

Image result for rock magazineImage result for hip hop magazine covers

Analysis of the magazines
Today I'll be analysing two different genres of music magazine - Hip-Hop and Rock. As you can see from the images above you can instantly tell they're different. The Hip-Hop magazine has more of a brighter approach and uses the colour red as the background whereas the rock magazine uses the colour black. The Hip-Hop one for this reason more eye catching as red is more appealing to the eye than black as you can see above. Both of their Mastheads are behind the main image however the Hip-Hop one seems be more covered. One of the reasons for this could be that 50 Cent's face is focused is in the cover and by having him there you straight away can tell it's going to be about Hip-Hop as he's a massive artist and also in the middle of the page it even mentions him so if you don't know about Hip-Hop it does say. On the other hand the rock magazines image doesn't cover whole of the magazine and it focuses on the whole body of the person instead of focusing on the face this could be because the person ain't a popular figure so it would not be a good selling point. Also on the rock magazine you can see that the photo has a electronic guitar on it which also helps it stand out more as a rock magazine as electronic guitars are one of the main instruments in rock. Finally the rock magazine seems to be more neat and organised as all the cover-lines are placed in an ordinarily fashioned and keeps it simple whereas the Hip-Hop magazine has cover-lines going down from the right hand side and also have images on the left hand side and seem less organised than the rock magazine. Overall I believe both magazines are good for their genres as they both suit the individual genre and Hip-Hop and rock is seen as genres that are not similar to each other which reflects by the magazines as you can see they're not similar in any kind of way.

Weekly Update

Hello everyone I hope you're having an amazing day. Today I've finally completed my preliminary task of my school magazine and have a completed front cover and contents page. I really enjoyed the creation of my magazine as I managed to improve on my photoshop skills. When I tried to do my front cover I was struggling at first as I lacked experience however as I slowly got used to it and played about I managed to do my front cover and by doing this task I managed to improve on my photoshop skills. In addition to that I've also managed to get audience feedback about my magazine so I know where to improve next time and to avoid mistakes I've already done which I found really helpful. Finally just to give you guys a heads up I will be now focusing on my music magazine and will be showing you some updates in the coming days.

Hope you enjoy your week.

School Magazine front cover & contents page analysis

Hello everyone I can confirm that I have finally finished my front cover and contents page for my school magazine and will be going through it with you.

Front Cover
My front cover was a task which I found the most difficult to make. The reason for this was the lack of experience in Photoshop however I managed to overcome it as I slowly got used to it. I added the blue background as the colour blue connotes intelligence which suits my magazine as 6th former's are seen as intelligent and formal which is suitable for my magazine. I've chosen the image of the two students and ensure that they wore suits as they looked smart which is what you want the 6th former's to look like and also by them focusing on the camera with a serious look it made them look more like grown ups that are ready for the challenge which is what you want your 6th former's mind set to be like. Finally I also added 'Guide for each topic for 6th former's' as I believed this would attract people to get the magazine as my magazine date shows it's early in the academic year which will be useful for them and be a good selling point. Overall I enjoyed creating my front cover for my magazine as I managed to learn new stuff in Photoshop and it was similar to what I planned it to be which I was happy about.

Contents Page
I believe my contents page was much better than my front cover. Reason for this is that it was simple and neat which made it look good. The Image that I've chosen was suitable as the person was smiling and looking happy which is how I want the 6th former's to feel like. Also the positioning of the picture was also suitable as it covered the right hand side and the whole left hand side was just page numbers and what was in the magazine. I made the background colour white as it I believe it suited my text font and colour and made it stand out more. Finally another thing that I decided to add is 'Quote of the day' as I want people that read the magazine to be inspired and by putting inspiration quote this could make them more motivated to work hard.

Audience Feedback Evaulation

Feedback on my school magazine

Hello everyone hope you're all having a good day like me and today I will be discussing some of the feedback I have received and will be breaking them all down.

Front Cover
In my feedback I got a few positives about my front cover from my audience. One of them was that I included relevant topics (cover lines) in my front cover which was relatable to my target market which was 6th formers which was good to hear. Also people stated that 'Flash' in my magazine was good as it did catch the attention of the people and finally the photo and the barcode was also seen as a positive by my audience as it made my magazine more professional. The improvements which could be made to my magazines that I gathered from my audience feedback was that I needed to add more content at the top of my front cover as they felt that it was left a bit empty. Also they suggested that my cover lines were too long which is bad as this could put people away from the magazine as they might find the front cover boring. Another Improvement that was suggested was to make the Masthead in capital letters to make it stand out more and also change the colour of the date and make it bolder as you can't notice it.

Contents Page
The positives I received on my contents page from my audience was that people liked how my layout was for my contents page and how the Image was on one side and page numbers on the other they thought it fit in well. Also they liked the fact I put in 'Quote of the Day' as it was unique selling point and was useful for my magazine as you would want your students to be motivated. The disadvantages of my magazines content page was with the photo was I should edited around the picture as there was some noticeable errors. Finally the background needed improvement as they felt it was blank and they suggested that I should of focused more on the background.

Weekly Update

Hello people another week has gone by in my project and this one has been a bit different to what you'll usually see. This week in my project I have done the Flat Plan for my front cover and content page and finally some photography ideas for my photoshoot. The Flat plan for the front cover and contents page was important as it gave me a rough idea how my actual school magazine would look like and for both the front cover and content page I created two flat plans to weigh up my options. Finally I created some photography ideas for my photoshoot so I can see some poses I can use and analyse why the would be suitable for a 6th form magazine to have me thinking on what exactly I want to do in the actual photoshoot.

Flat Plan Front Cover

Hello people today I created my Flat plan for the front cover of my magazine for the Preliminary task. I decided to create two as I wanted to see my options and to see if I can do one better than the other one and looking back at it I have decided which one I want to go with but I will still show you both of them.

This is the Flat plan I decided to go with as I thought it was more suitable and looked more professional to go with as I felt everything was fitted in well.

The one I didn't go with will be below this text. I decided not to pick this as I thought everything didn't combine well together and that the Flat plan was not as appropriate for what my magazine will be about.

Weekly Update

Hello everyone today I'll be talking to you about what was produced this week in my blog and keep you up to date if you have missed some of the posts this week. The first thing I managed to do is obtain my school questionnaire results to have a rough idea of what 6th formers enjoy and to see what to include in my school magazine and you can find the results on the blog if you want to see them. As I gained the results I completed a readership profile to tell you guys some of my opinions about the result and what I will be including in my school magazine so you know what to expect from it when it's produced. After all of this it was time to think about the Masthead of the magazine. I created a Masthead plan with five different names and with five different fonts which I would pick on later on. Then like the Masthead plan I created a colour scheme which I could use for my magazine and tried to relate the colours to the 6th form but I tried to use a variety colours which I would pick for my magazine. Finally I picked my masthead and included different colours for it (only five) that I think would be suitable however this will be chosen at a later date.

It's been another week of progress and I hope to see you here again soon.

School Masthead colours

School Masthead colours

Today I'm going to present you my Masthead colours for the school magazine. I've finally chosen a Masthead but now I have to decide what colour I want for my Masthead and have created five different colours for my Masthead which I believe are the best five that I will pick from and you can see the five different ones (colour) with the Masthead I've chosen right below this.

School Colour Scheme

School colour scheme

Today I'm going to present you with my colour scheme. I've picked five different colour schemes and every one of them has their own reasons. I tried to include colours which represent the academy and the 6th form so the magazine can be more 'relatable' to the students. However I created different colours for the reason that I believe it was suitable for the magazine and you can view them right below this text.

The colour scheme I decided to initially go with is the far left one (first one). The reason for this is that I believe the colours are smooth and are not to aggressive which is what you want your 6th formers to feel like when they look at your magazine. This is because 6th form is considered to be stressful for students so by having calming colours this could calm them down when reading the magazine.

School Masthead Ideas

School Masthead Ideas

Hello people today I will be presenting my Masthead ideas to you which I will pick one soon. I managed to pick out five names with five different fonts which will be found below this text.

The masthead I decided to go with was the 'The 6th formers'. This is because is I wanted it to base my magazine on 6th formers and as you can see the other magazines seems like it's more about the general school instead of 6th formers as it's all about Purley, so by having 'The 6th formers' as my masthead my target audience (6th formers) will be able to straight away know that it's focused only on them and not lower years.

School Readership Profile

Today I'm going to go through my results of my questionnaire with you and analyze some parts of it and explain who I will be targeting my magazine to.

The first question in my survey was to see the different ages in the 6th form and to see what was the dominant age. As you can see from my results the majority of the people who answered my survey was 16 year olds. This shows that people in 6th form are mainly from year 12 and that they are the more dominant age group.

Second questions in my survey was the gender. In this section I expected it to be pretty even and as you can see from the results it did turn out like what I expected and was even. There was 11 males and 9 females which answered my survey.

In the third question if I managed to get different results than I expected. I believed the 6th formers would enjoy socializing with their friend with the most but this didn't turn out to be the matter. The most thing people enjoyed was their break and lunch time and the least votes were for friends.

The fourth question was to find out what people disliked the most about the school as I managed to find out what they enjoyed the most in school. I found out that 6th formers most disliked the rules of the school. This could suggest that the 6th formers believe they are being treated unfairly which could be a potential topic to talk about in my magazine.

The fifth question in my survey was to find out about their hobbies to see what people enjoy the most. In my results it was tightly contested. Reading was mentioned the most which is a benefit which shows that my magazine could be ideal for 6th formers which means I can potentially aim to only focus on them. The second most mentioned hobby was sports. This was pretty much expected as young adults tend to be interested in fitness which means I could include Sport events in my magazine as it'll be more ideal.

Sixth question I asked was what people are planning to do after 6th form and as expected most of the people wanted to go University and some of them wanted to do apprenticeship and by this I can get an idea on what to include in my magazine such as University details and different Apprenticeship opportunities.

Another question I asked to see if the people were employed/Volunteer somewhere to get a rough idea of how much free time they have as 6th form is normally much harder than secondary school. I thought that many people will be unemployed but this didn't turn out to be the case. Even though majority of them was unemployed (11) it was still tight and out of the twenty people I asked nine of them said yes. This shows that potentially many of them didn't have that much free time.

The results for the 8th question was tight expect for Media which many people preferred. Many of the other subjects were even which shows that if I was to focus on a topic it would be Media as it was the winner easily.

I believe the 9th question was the most important question as it would tell me if people would actually read my magazine. The results showed positivity as majority of them said they do enjoy reading school magazines.

The final question was which type of genre they did enjoy reading (For the people saying they did enjoy reading a magazine). As you can see from the results many people enjoyed reading about music and fashion. This gave me a rough idea on any additional content that I can include for my school magazine to make it attract readers.

Overall from my questionnaire I know now that I will target my school magazine on 6th formers and will include topics like Sports, School rules, University options and many more. The reason for including these topics is from the results I obtained from the questionnaire so by including these topics it can attract more readers.

Weekly Update

Hello people I'm back here again with the Weekly update telling you exactly what I've done incase you missed out on some of the blogs I posted. One of the first thing I have done this week is create a mind map about School topics. The reason for this is that I wanted get a rough idea what my school magazine can include. After this I analyzed two school magazines front covers. The reason for this is that I lack experience in School magazines and by checking into how they are designed this could give me an idea for my School magazine. Final task was for me to create a School Questionnaire. This was vital for me as this was given to my focus group and by my results I can see all of their interests and the results of this (which I hopefully will be getting soon) could impact what's in my magazine as my focus group might have different interests to what I thought they would have so I just have to wait in for the results and see.

Thanks for being here again this week and I hope you will remain with me in my journey of creating a school magazine.

Analysis of two school magazines

Hello everyone today I'm going to analysis two school magazines and going to try show you the differences and similarities of both of their front cover.

Trinity School magazine
 Front Cover

This is the front cover of the school magazine for Trinity School. As you can see from the front cover this magazine is created professionally as the text  font and colour is suitable and stands out with the background. The text is written in a way that it looks organised and professional you can see that the text is written in an not all over the page. The page after the front cover shows kids smiling. This is well planned out as when Parents look at this magazine they get a good impression as by the kids smiling this can give the impression that children at this school enjoy their time and education.

Greig City Academy

 Front Cover

As you can see this is the Greig City academy's front cover for their magazine. The first impression of this school magazine is that it seems like it wasn't made as 'professionally' as Trinity School. The reason for this is that the background seems more basic and they have not gone into detail as much as Trinity, also the font looks 'lame' and not interesting as Trinity School. The reason for the font to look like this is because of the background as if they changed it to a font style like Trinity it wouldn't suit the front cover because of the background which makes the school look more middle class than Trinity. However one positive is that the front cover shows a kid concentrated while he is working which could show the parents that the school ensures that the children here work hard which could result in good examination result for their child.
